    Skill: Giving and receiving compliments

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever does not thank people has not thanked Allah.”

Its important to actively teach children to thank and complement others and practise doing this especially with people that they experience conflicts with such as their siblings.

Benefits: helps interpersonal relationships, shows children to appreciate and be thankful for the good they see in others. Boosts self esteem and confidence in the children receiving the compliments. It’s also important to teach children to be genuine in their compliments and also be appropriate in their compliments.

Team game: Have the children sit in a circle and one child sitting in the middle. The children take turns practising to complement the child, thank him or give him positive feedback.

Individual practice: Help the child to come up with compliments for people they come in contact with eg sibling, school staff, peers, shopkeeper, neighbour, grandmother etc.

    Examples:

“Your fruits and vegetables look very fresh!”

“You are fund to play with.”

“I look forward to seeing you when I come to here.”

    “You share nicely.”

“You are a good team player”

    “You are good at this.”

    “You are so kind!”

    “You are so generous!”

    “You teach so well.”
